Nate's 26th Birthday

On November 25th, my wonderful husband turned 26. This was also the one-year anniversary of the day that he asked me out. My, how things have changed since last year! Nate’s birthday fell in the middle of a busy week, but that wasn’t about to stop us from celebrating. After I got home from work that evening, we had dinner at home, and then walked to downtown Burbank to see a movie. As no birthday is complete without cake and candles, I decided to try an ice cream cake recipe. It ended up being a melting disaster for various reasons, but still tasted tolerably. I am ashamed to say that it was the ugliest cake that I have ever made, especially since the frosting wouldn’t stick to the cold cake and then the ice cream started melting into the frosting as I was decorating, forcing me to garnish the cake in record speed. We had a good laugh at the sloppy mess.

Nate woke up to a message on the mirror, as well as a birthday breakfast of cinnamon rolls etc. I learned the mirror-writing trick from my former room mate, Jenn. Just use Dry Erase markers.

There was really nothing showing that evening at our local theater, so we ended up seeing Madagascar 2. It was actually somewhat entertaining. We made it “birthday special” by including the $10 popcorn and drink – a rare treat.

While walking back from the movie, we got caught in a sudden shower. Unaccompanied by our umbrellas, and being multiple blocks from our apartment, we had to sprint in the rain. We must have been a sight, but we had fun!

Birthday Cake

The Infamous Cake. Note that it is only half-decorated, as the ice cream started rapidly melting, so I had to stop, throw the candles on, and have Nate blow.

A cross section of the chocolate cake with raspberry fudge ice cream. It was a nice idea. Oh well!

Nate enjoying the cake, despite the mishap.

What memories you made together. Years from now you’ll look back and this will be one of your fondest!! Thank you for sharing. And the cake didn’t look that bad to me. :)
